Dr. Yaser Haddara, Ph.D. - Chairman

Yaser Haddara serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Islamic Relief. Haddara teaches Electrical Engineering at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. He received his Bachelors in Engineering from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1991 and received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1997.

Haddara has been active in the Muslim community in North America since 1986 and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC). Haddara is also the Secretary/Treasurer of Islamic Relief Canada. In addition, Haddara sits on the Hamilton Chief of Police Advisory Committee on Diversity and represents MAC Hamilton on the Hamilton Anti-Racism Network."

Haddara joined the board in the Spring of 2006.

Naser HagHamed - Vice President

Naser HagHamed currently serves as the General Manager of TIC International, the trading arm of Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) based in the U.K. HagHamed joined IRW in 1993 and occupied various posts, including the Head of IT and Head of International Programs with a budget of over $15 million. He served as a board member and board secretary for IRW Board of Management for several years. Prior to joining Islamic Relief, HagHamed was the General Manager of Applied Microsystems Technology where he had the responsibility of overseeing the operation and development of the Technical Support & Evaluation departments. HagHamed has more than15 years of senior management experience.

HagHamed joined the board in the Fall of 2006.

Dr. Andrea Borgmann-Traiba, M.D. - Member

Andrea Borgmann-Traiba received her Artium Baccaleaureus from Harvard University in 1985 and her Medical Doctorate from the Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1998. Borgmann-Traiba works as a Pediatric Hospitalist for the Children’s Hospital of Boston. In addition, she is an instructor at the Harvard Medical School and also served as a Board Member for the Malik Academy in Cambridge, MA. Borgmann-Traiba also served on the Board of Directors of the Islamic Society of Boston and is active with several local Muslim organizations.

Borgmann-Traiba joined the board in the Fall of 2007.

Dr. Ihab M. Hamdi Saad, Ph.D. - Member

Ihab M. Hamdi Saad received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Cairo University in 1984 and then went on to receive his Higher Diploma in Construction Project Management in 1989 and his Master of Science in Civil Engineering in 1994. In 1996, Saad received his Doctorate of Philosophy in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky.

Saad joined the board in the Summer of 2006.

Aamir A. Rehman - Member

Aamir A. Rehman is an expert in global corporate strategy. Rehman was formerly the global head of strategy for HSBC Amanah, a business unit of the world’s third largest bank serving over 300,000 customers in major markets worldwide. As an advisor to Fortune 500 and other leading businesses, Rehman has helped develop strategies for multinationals across the globe, including the United States, Europe, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and the broader Middle East. Previously a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group, he holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School, a master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard University, and a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College.

Rehman joined the board in the Fall of 2007.

Mohamed Amr Attawia - Member

Attawia joined the board in Sept. 2009.

Abed Ayoub - Chief Executive Officer


Abed Ayoub comes from a strong management background with 17 years of experience in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. He holds an executive MBA and has served in a variety of administrative positions during his professional career. Under Ayoub’s leadership, Islamic Relief USA’s revenue increased from $76 million in 2008 to $147 million in 2009.

As a Governance Committee Member of Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW), Ayoub monitors the present performance of IRW and plans future aims and priorities for the international organization. He is also the Chairman of the “Governance and Improving IR Partnerships” Subcommittee.

Currently, Ayoub serves on the executive board of many local and international non-profit organizations. He is a founding partner of the Center for Interfaith Action, a coalition of faith organizations working collectively to reduce global poverty and disease. In April 2010, Ayoub was appointed to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid (ACVFA). Along with other leaders in the international development field, Ayoub provides advice, analysis and recommendations to USAID on the most pressing development issues in the world today.
